Which, if you like Ohio State (and most people, including me, don’t), was a bit of a heartbreaker.
Anyway, at the beginning of the game, I was expressing my opinion that OSU fans just might take their football a little too seriously.
I mean, when I was at the University of Wisconsin, we definitely cared about the games while they we happening, but if we lost, which happened quite often, we would generally be sad for a few minutes, shrug our shoulders, and continue to drink.
Whereas, at least in my limited experiences with OSU fans, the night is over when the team loses. Drinking stops, and sulking ensues.
But anyway, when I said this on Saturday, one of the guys there sort of freaked out. He went on and on about how the people who set cars on fire generally weren’t students and that it was the Wisconsin fans who had the worst reputation in the NCAA for being out of control.
False.
Then, when the (admittedly heartbreaking) loss happened, this very same guy:
- Threatened to fight someone cheering for the other team.
- Told the guy he wanted to fight (who was a realtor) to “enjoy his middle class life.”
- Stormed out of the bar, leaving a full beer (but not any money), never to be seen again.
*DISCLAIMER: I do actually think people who went to Ohio State are pretty cool. Except for the ones who aren't.
