Questionable Graphic Design Choices and Jason DeRusha's Coolness

Yesterday, Jason DeRusha posted this story on Twitter (Stephanie, stop pretending it's not useful).

And while it was an important breaking story, I couldn't get over the graphic they used to illustrate the body of a local college student being found in the river (at the time of the initial story posting, his identity was suspected but not confirmed).

This was it:


Umm . . . yeah.

The chalk outline, the font, the color of the text . . . it all adds up to just, well, poor taste.

But don't worry, Jason DeRusha came to the rescue!

I responded, questioning the taste level of the image, and within minutes, he had both agreed and gotten it taken down.

This whole "interacting with people who report the news and being able to have an influence on it" is a pretty cool thing.
